National Grid is preparing to dismantle four of the gasholders at the former Southall Gasworks site, to ready the side for development.

The removal of the first sections of the gasholders will start this summer. This will allow St James, the developer that owns the site, to transform the site, which is currently occupied by a large car park and disused gasholders.

St James has plans in place to develop thousands of new homes, create hundreds of jobs, green open space, community facilities, including a new school, and is aiming to attract hundreds of millions of pounds of investment into Ealing.

Nadia Dew, land regeneration manager for National Grid, said: “Our work to dismantle the gasholders on the Southall Gasworks site is an important piece of the jigsaw in preparing the site for regeneration, and bringing about significant benefits to Southall. We are excited to be a part of Southall’s transformation.”
