Groundwork has started on Clearview Homes' Greenford Broadway development in the London Borough of Ealing.

The project comprises a five-storey apartment block featuring 44 residential units, as well as 930sq m of retail space on the site of the former Red Lion pub.

A building technique known as cellular clay block and thin mortar technology will be applied to the scheme.

Ray Dias, chief operations officer and joint owner of Clearview Homes, said: “The materials are sustainably sourced, the construction process is fast, dry, efficient, strong, safe and sustainable.

“We are able to reduce our construction times substantially and this means we can deliver more homes more quickly. And that’s important when there is a desperate shortage of new homes. It’s doing our bit to help local authorities to meet their targets.

“In 2013 there was a shortfall of some 136,000 new homes in England – we feel that we are playing our part in redressing the balance.”

Planning approval for the scheme was passed in late 2013.
