New car park set to boost business

Southall's new car park has been officially opened and is set to help boost trade in the town, according to the leader of Ealing Council.

The facility, adjacent to Southall Market, was built to add capacity to the town’s existing car park in Herbert Road, which is often full at weekends.

Council leader Julian Bell said the previous shortage of spaces meant motorists were often forced to drive around town looking for spaces, increasing congestion in the process, and that traders and shoppers had long been asking for more and better parking arrangements for several years.

“Southall is an important shopping area and this investment is crucial in supporting local traders during these tough economic times,” he said.

“This new car park will attract more shoppers, both locally and from further afield, keeping business afloat and creating employment.

“This is an exciting time for the Southall. Major works will be starting soon to improve the town centre, making it safer and more accessible for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

“Crossrail will also be stopping here in the future, so this extra parking is coming at the perfect time.”
