Demolition paves way for new Southall car park

Work has begun on Southall's new £2.5 million car park, which is expected to boost the town's appeal as a shopping destination.
The scheme, on the site of Southall’s old cattle market, is a direct response to traders' concerns that a lack of parking space was increasing congestion in the town and deterring potential shoppers.
Ealing Council leader Julian Bell helped with the demolition of the cattle market and said the new car park was “essential” to Southall’s regeneration.
“With Crossrail coming and the major transport improvement works due to start soon in Southall Broadway, this is the right time to support businesses and do our bit to help keep the town centre as a destination shopping area,” he said.
The new car park is scheduled to open in early autumn.
