Green light for West Ealing hotel plans

Proposals to create a 60-room hotel above two vacant shops in West Ealing have been conditionally approved by borough councillors.

Chart Forte Court had sought permission to convert the former branches of Peacocks and Pound Saver Superstore on Broadway to create a four-storey building with shops at ground level and the hotel above.

Ealing Council’s planning committee last week approved the application, subject to a list of conditions that include developer financial contributions and the creation of an acceptable sustainable travel plan reflecting the building’s new use.

Chart Forte’s proposals would see the conversion of both stores’ existing upper floors for hotel use, and the construction of two new storeys above.

Recommending the scheme for approval, planning officers said they considered that hotel developments were suitable for the area and that increasing the height of the current buildings by up to 13.5 metres would be acceptable.

“Overall, it is considered that the proposed hotel development would contribute positively to the viability and vitality of the Ealing metropolitan centre,” they said.

“The proposed development generally complies with the relevant adopted and draft policies and guidelines and is therefore recommended for conditional approval subject to legal agreement.”
