Affordable housing schemes expanded

Ealing Council is adding 29 homes to its pipeline of affordable housing following a successful bid for extra cash from London mayor Boris Johnson's housing covenant fund.

Nine extra shared-ownership homes will be built on the Golflinks estate in Southall as part of its regeneration programme, while 20 additional homes will be built at Copley Close in Hanwell, over and above the project's already-proposed 214 new units.

Ealing Council is adopting a new role of developer, funder and registered provider on both schemes.

Councillor Hitesh Tailor, the borough’s housing lead, said the new-build programme now numbered 429 new affordable homes, many of them for social rent.

“We’ve already forged a good reputation for constructive partnership with developers and now we’re becoming a significant developer in our own right,” he said.

“This commitment to new-build schemes is providing much needed family homes of mixed-tenure, including those for social rent and for sale.”
