Students from Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College displayed their expertise last month at the Skills Show in Birmingham.
Skills show: students showed off their skills
The show is a new competitive event demonstrating the skills of apprentices in a wide range of industries.
Students from the college took part in demonstration events for bricklaying, carpentry, joinery, painting and decorating, plastering and tiling.
Sarah Levett-Yeats (level 3 diploma in wall and floor tiling) was the wall and floor tiling representative for the London region. She said: "We were really excited to be part of World Skills. But it was a 19-hour long competition, so it was exhausting!
“Some of the designs were quite challenging, but by coming second I think we placed ourselves really well among a group of very talented competitors and also made our name known to the people visiting World Skills."
One of the main goals of the competition was to give students a chance to "roll up their sleeves" and pitch their skills against competitors from across the country in front of the public in a large setting, as well as get feedback on their performance from industry professionals.
